  • Comparative analysis of the designs of dust settling chambers for steel furnace emissions purification systems

The main designs of dust settling chambers of metallurgical enterprises are considered, an analysis is given from the point of view of the type of metallurgical furnaces, their power, and schemes for removing gases from them to gas cleaning equipment. The movement of gas flow in chambers of various designs was studied using the SolidWorks software product with the FlowSimulation application, which made it possible to establish the behavior of the gas-air flow depending on the design of the dust settling chamber.

  • Studies of air pollution by fine dust in park areas adjacent to motorways

The purpose of author's researches - assessment of level of pollution by fine particles (PM10, PM5, PM2.5, PM1, PM0.5) of atmospheric air in territories of parks in Volgograd. Due to the fact that the parks operate year-round, research was carried out in the winter, spring-autumn and summer periods of the year. Research, in particular, was carried out in two parks located in the central part of Volgograd, where there are no industrial enterprises, and are adjacent to one of the largest city highways. Analysis of the particulate composition and mass concentration of fine dust in atmospheric air was performed using microscopic analysis and using Handheld 3016. At the same time, the temperature and relative humidity of the air, wind speed and atmospheric pressure were measured. Measurements were made in places with the largest concentration of visitors to the park at an altitude of 0.5 m, 1 m and 1.5 m, i.e. in the breathing zone of children, adolescents and adults. In the air environment on the territory of the surveyed park zones of Volgograd, there is no excess of the MPC in the atmospheric air for suspended matter RI2.5 observed, but there are cases of significant excess of the average annual and average daily MPC for RM10 particles.

  • Dependence of the concentration of fine dust on the curb of the carriageway on the influence of external factors

The article considers the concentration dependence of dust particles PM2.5 and PM10 on a curb stone on a number of influencing parameters. According to the data of field measurements, a quadratic regression equation was compiled, according to which the factors that have the greatest influence on the spread of fine dust near the roadway were determined. The results of mathematical processing of experimental data are presented in the form of a graph of the confidence area of the observed and predicted values constructed using the STATISTICA software product.

  • Checking the applicability of the law of fine dust distribution for various categories of roads

The forecast of fine dust pollution, the organization of monitoring and quality control of the air environment are relevant for cities with a developed transport infrastructure. The article checks the application of the distribution law for the concentration of fine dust PM2.5 and PM10 for highways of urban, district and local significance, the sample size was 50 values.

  • Analysis of the characteristics of dust of natural origin in the steppe zone of the Volgograd region

The article shows the results of the dispersion analysis of natural dust in the steppe zone of the Volgograd region, obtained using a microscopic method. The integral functions and distribution of small particles in the selected samples after the application of the "dissection" method for particles up to 20 µm are presented.

  • Determination of the morphological composition of dust particles

Dust particles formed and propagated on the territory of industrial enterprises have certain physico-chemical properties. The traditional characteristic defining the properties of a dispersed (powder) system is its granulometric composition. Often, such properties of a dispersed material as (hygroscopicity, strength, porosity, abrasiveness, etc.) depend not only on the particle sizes in the dispersed material, but also on the shape of dust particles. Therefore, for a more complete analysis of the resulting emissions, it is necessary to know the shape of the solid particles contained in the gas-air mixture. To analyze the morphometric characteristics of solid particles, the transmission microscopy method was used, followed by the translation of the obtained raster photographs into binary format. The analysis of the obtained images was performed by Spotexplorer software. The data obtained after processing binary images were used to determine the morphological composition of solid particles.
