  • Investigation of energy-optimal modes of train operation using a simulation-optimization model

The article deals with the problem of optimal control of the train (OKT) from the standpoint of the modern theory of automatic control. This problem is relevant for many years, but to date it has not been completely solved, due to the large number of random factors affecting the nature of the train, as well as the development in recent years of high-speed and high-speed, as well as heavy and long-range traffic. The mathematical model of train movement and formulation of the OKT problem are presented, the classification of known methods of its solution is offered. A simulation model in Matlab/Simulink environment is developed, which allows to study different models and control laws. A metaheuristic algorithm for optimization of train operating modes using a simulation model implemented in the form of a software module in Matlab is proposed. The results of computational experiments confirming the convergence of the algorithm are presented.

  • Advantages of application of population of final volume instead of selection for Veybull's distribution with three parameters

The selective method of calculation because of the profitability is successfully applied several centuries. However when calculating non-failure operation in case of fatigue failures (often sudden) when there is a considerable sedate communication of m=10-15 for the supermulti-cycle field of loading between durability (hardness, an endurance limit) and the operating tension, decrease in the minimum resource of details will make 10-100 and more times. It turns out because of an unaccounted main part of population. In our example of 104-50=9950 pieces of such details, i.e. their potential refusals. Therefore for this case a selective method – the intermediate stage of calculations.

  • Neural network approach to forecasting energy consumption in an urban environment

Environmentally friendly approach to energy consumption implies planning the resources' amount which could be delivered and utilized by the end user. For the resource provider this means being able to get remote data from a huge number of users, with further data analysis being performed to predict future consumption. The main objective of this work was a comparison of classical regression analysis methods with neural network analysis for solving a household energy consumption prediction problem. Research was based on an array of energy consumption data collected from 47 households situated in the Rostov region (Russia) over a period of 730 days. We investigated the forecasting models based on statistical regressing of 1-st, 2-d and 3-d order and a recurrent neural network (the best result we achieved had been given by a neural network with one hidden layer of 10 neurons). Forecasting time-frame was 20% of the data-set (nearly three months) and 80% we used for training. For our data the best result was achieved by a neural network where the ratio error of the forecast practically didn't exceed 5% (mean ratio error was 0.22 and standard deviation of 3.7). For the regression models these terms were 0.37 and 6.24 for the 1-st order, 3.31 and 6.45 for the 2-d order, 0.29 and 6.7 for the 3-d order model respectively. As a result of this work we determined, that rather simple recurrent neural network provides a better result in terms of energy consumption prediction in comparison with classical regression analysis methods, though more complex networks, such as LSTM, need a wider data array to learn.

  • Review of existing cold water meters and approaches to improving the accuracy of measuring water flow

In this paper, we evaluate the water meters available on the market, their advantages and disadvantages are given. The classification of water meters and the assessment of their specific application are given. The main problem at the moment in measuring the flow of water resources is the accuracy of measurement on all flow ranges without a significant increase in the price for the retail sale of the meter. It is shown that the most problematic zone of the range is the minimum and drop rate. The second most important is the maximum flow rate and the accompanying hydraulic shock (in the case when the transition time from zero flow to maximum is negligible). The paper noted that at the moment there are no accounting devices on the market that solve both problems described. It is also shown that it is possible to make the meter more attractive to the consumer with the help of additional (not metrological functions). For example, an important function is the signaling of long-term leaks in the system.

  • Forecasting short-term productivity in IT projects

At the moment one of the most advanced flexible methodologies IT project management is SCRUM technology. Its feature is the partition of the whole work on short iterations (sprints), each of which represents a cyclic process, repeated all the way through the product development process. This allows you to constantly monitor the emerging risks and minimize them effects. Each sprint starts with planning, which sets the pace of work and stimulates high performance. The key point of planning is predicting the level of focus of the team on the implementation of the tasks, the so-called focus factor. It is the ratio productivity to labor intensity. The paper presents the results of numerical experiments to identify the best methods for predicting this indicator. In their the production data of one of the project groups of the real commercial firm in the field of IT. Extrapolation forecasting methods with a sliding base on the previous actual results. At the same time, the width of the base one to seven previous periods), and the type of extrapolating function. Approximating polynomials of zero, first and second degree are considered. Attention has also been paid to the method of exponential smoothing and Bayesian approach to diagnosis and prediction. For the integral the quality of forecasting used the value of the root-mean-square relative performance error. According to the results of the experiments, three optimal variants are selected. The first is the forecast for the sliding arithmetic average of the actual focus-factors for 3-4 previous periods. In the second variant, again, the sliding the average of actual focus factors for 3-5 sprints, but not arithmetic, and geometric. The third method for predicting is the product theoretical focus factor on the actual. We use the geometric mean it per the 1-2 sprints. In the mean square norm for both methods, the prediction error is the same, about 5.8%. If we estimate it not by the mean square metric, but by maximum deviation, then the latter option is slightly better. Results are intended to clarify the intuitive planning of sprints when performing real projects.
